Rhodes

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population, situated in eastern Aegean Sea.

Here are some pictures of our holiday in Rhodes. We stayed in Faliraki (Hotel Calypso), and from there we visited the island renting a car.

Among the various beauties the offer can offer we would like to remind you of following ones:

  • Lindos, an archaeological site on the east coast of the island famous for its Acropolis overlooking the sea.
  • The City of Rhodes, the capital city of the Island, situated in the north-east tip of the island.
  • Petaludes Valley, known in English as the Valley of the Butterflies, where large numbers of tiger moths gather in the summer. Really an oasis of cool air in the mountains.
  • Prasonissi, a paradise for surfers.
Lindos

Lindos is about 55km south of the town of Rhodes and its fine beaches make it a popular tourist and holiday destination. L indos is situated in a large bay and faces the fishing village and small resort of Haraki. Above the modern town rises the acropolis of Lindos, a natural citadel which was fortified successively by the Greeks, by the Romans, the Byzantines, the Knights of St John and the Ottomans.

The City of Rhodes

Rhodes city is very interesting and rich in historical monuments: it is divided in two parts: The Old Town, or medieval and The New Town. Surrounded by strong walls, the Old Town is one of the best-preserved fortresses of Europe, illustrating the Byzantine times, the middle age and the Turkish rule.

The Valley of the Butterflies of Rhodes

Petaloudes is a scenic gorge in the inland of Rhodes. The Valley is located 20 km from the airport of Rhodes, and is near to the Village of Kalamonas There, from June to September you can admire millions of butterflies, attracted by the resin in the storax trees. The Valley of the Butterflies is worth a visit and though their numbers are declining due to the impact of tourism on their habitat, they are still impressive.

Prasonissi

Prasonissi beach is most of all the surfers paradise, the place where everything is about the waves. Prasonissi is located on the last edge of the Rhodes Island, in its most Southern point, 95 km away from the city of Rhodes, at the other end of the island. The beach of Prasonissi shows two faces – a big-waved and open-sea area of the beach to the right, and the secluded left one.
